audience and institutions: technological development

Digital technologies have transformed the way media is produced and distributed. Discuss with reference to the media area you have studied. Throughout the years, technology has developed immensely to create a new reality in the world of film. New adaptions of cameras, from film to digital and advancements with the internet and technology have transformed the way media is produced and distributed. All filmmaking processes such as pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, marketing/promotion and exhibition have been affected by the development of technology. These changes have had an affect on not only the filmmaking process but on the audience and film industry as a whole. For many years, the only way to produce a film was through film. The shots would be filmed then sent off to a printing laboratory to be developed, which would take about a day. The film would be fetched (called a 'daily') and that was that. distribution research

How do you get your film distributed? Film distribution is the commercial process that makes a feature film available to the general public. It usually also includes determining a marketing strategy.  In the old days, major film distribution companies put a movie into theaters, and it ran there for up to a year, and then it was gone.  The average theatrical run was trimmed by ancillary rights from up to a year down to 3-4 months. Distribution rights refer to the ability of one company to sell another company's product.  when distributing a film: identify elements that seem to work consistently. This is one of those enigmatic truths of the entertainment industry. something else a lot of distributors look for in a cast isn't a name recognition, and it certainly isn't talent. it's twitter followers. if your cast has a 'strong social media presence' it makes everyone's job that much easier. ways to get your film out ther...

Ownership (audience and institutions essay) - study break homework

To what extent does media ownership impact the success of a film? Films owned by large conglomerates like the oligopoly; the Big 5, instantly have an advantage in regard to the success of their films. Due to the ownership of their many subsidiaries; the Big 5 are able to successfully advertise their films through many different avenues by the use of cross-media convergence. A subsidiary is a company that is owned by a much larger, parent company. For example; Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2001. Although there is a clear advantage for film companies like the Big 5; this doesn't mean smaller indie films can't be successful especially when there are organisations like the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) around. Franchises are a very common advantage to large conglomerates as they establish fan-bases. Franchises are movies that contain sequels and prequels which can be produced a few years after one another or even a decade or two. Large-scale film companies like the Big 5 ...

planning: In this scene from the crime drama; Breaking Bad we can see a representation of age and gender. Age is contrasted to portray the idea that someone who is younger is out of depth, nervous, and can never really fulfil tasks given to them. In contrast, an older person is shown to be knowledgeable and put together. Gender is also heavily represented in regards to the male gender as we only see encounters between men. They are portrayed as the ones who will break the law, are dominant and may get into a fight. Comparatively we only notice women doing typical things like shopping or serving customers at the till. They are only used as side characters. In this essay, we will go over how this meaning is displayed using the four technical elements; sound, editing, camera, and mis- En -scene.   Many shot-reverse-shots are used throughout this scene which allows the audience to contrast the two characters that are shown at the beginning; the scruffy younger guy and the more put ...
