Props and Costumes (preliminary task 1)
Props and Costumes:
Props:
For props we have gone with a knife as the main murder weapon. The knife will be used by the serial killer when they murder the victim. The serial killer will be seen giving the knife a grand reveal towards the end of the film as they will dramatically pull it out of their pocket. Blood will then be used after this to show the impactful affects of the knife.
Blood will be used to not only symbolise death of the victim but the utterly gruesome way in which it occurred. The blood will be seen pouring out of the victim and creating a pool of blood. It will be very clearly evident as the victim will be wearing white. The ingredients and recipe for the blood are:
- teaspoon of flour
- half a teaspoon of red food colouring
- tablespoon of corn syrup
- one drop of blue food colouring
A mobile phone will be used by the victim in the beginning to represent and imply danger. The victim will receive a text message from an anonymous person (killer). The message will read 'you're dead'. Actors have agreed to use their personal phones. The text message will give off a diegetic sound.
A balloon with a creepy smiley face will be used at the end as the serial killer's calling card.
This ballon links to the killer as who he is as a character and this is what he always leaves at the scene of his murders for the police to find later on. This is symbolic of how his murders are almost like a game to him. The smiley face will be a little more intense as it will have crosses as eyes. It's turning something innocent and happy into something a little more sinister. The balloon will be revealed at the end of the last scene.
A laptop will be used at the beginning of the scene to allude to the idea that the victim is packing up for the night. I will provide my laptop for the shoot.
Costumes:
The serial killer will be wearing full black to allude to the complete darkness they have indulged themselves with. There will be no hint of colour. The full blackness also helps with the practicality of the scene as we need a shot of their silhouette. This costume also gives no information away of who this killer is and it leaves a more exciting and anticipating plot to be revealed. It leaves the audience wanting to find out more about them.
The victim will be wearing the polar opposite of the serial killer; as they will be wearing white. This definitively creates a good guy bad guy scheme in the plot. The victim's outfit will be a little more casual as the victim really is who we say they are; simply just a victim of the killer's cruel ways. The victim has just had a casual day at work. The casualness of their outfit shows that they are just a 'normal' person but are also of not too much importance to the storyline of the whole film; only this opening scene as they give information of what the killer is capable of. The t-shirt will also help the blood stand out more.
